Standard (EADGBE)

For twenty-two days I’ve stood in the welfare line

Without an education a job was hard to find

And up in front of me were ten thousand plus nine

And I'm up to my neck in I.O.U.’s and down to my last dime

I tried to sell some pencils on the street

But found my luck to sell was just weak

I’m ashamed to have to pretend that I am blind

But I'm up to my neck in I.O.U.’s and down to my last dime

Well I'm up to my neck in I.O.U.’s, I owe everybody in town

Everyday I say I’m getting on up put I keep going down

And I’ve signed every paper in town that I could sign

But I'm up to my neck in I.O.U.’s and down to my last dime

Well the internal revenue department is having fits

They claim I underpaid them by six pence

If I wound up in court I’ll serve out ninety-nine

Well I'm up to my neck in I.O.U.’s and down to my last dime

Yes I'm up to my neck in I.O.U.’s and down to my last dime
