Derek: Clean guitar, played over Cliff

Intro

(These are weird chords, I have tabbed them out below. It took

me a good 5 minutes to even figure out a theoretical name for

them, which are, btw, correct!)

  Aug--sus4

  Aug--sus4

  Aug--sus4

  Aug--sus4

Verse

(*Note on verse*: because E and Asus2 are both played on so many open

strings, you can get a clearer sound if right as you change chords,

you use your (free) pinky finger to mute the strings, almost as if you

were using the finger as a bar. E-mail me if you are lost on this.)

Chorus

Bridge

(*Note on bridge*: This pair is played 8 times underneath Cliff's vocals.

To play it as on the record, pick through the chords, do not strum them.

A pattern focused on the high 4 strings will serve you best. The 7th

and 8th times, quickly strumming the high 4 right as you change, then

continuing to pick them will sound best. If you have questions on this,

let me know. That's what I'm here for :-) )

The pattern is exactly the same as Cliff's

5. Forget what you know

Intro

(Derek only; Cliff does not play)

Verse 1

  hE hAsus2

My friend why do you whip yourself

  hE hAsus2

With the leather of your life

hE hAsus2 C#m

Why do your memories build like

  hE hAsus2

Poison in your mind

Bridge 1

You're re-running the mistakes (of your mind)

In the theater of your mind

  Hoping that there'll be

A happily ever after this time

Chrous 1:

  open-

Let go

  open-

Let go

  open-

Let go

  open-

And forget what you know

Verse 2

(Same as Verse 1)

You fear you've walked too far

In the hemlock forest and you are lost

But what error could you invent

With more power than the cross

Chorus 2

  open-

Let go

  open- open-

Your sin is not an axe

  Let go

  open- open- open-

That can fell the sacred tree

  open-

Let go

  open- open-

Your regret is not a net

  Let go

  open- open- open-

That can dredge the forgetting sea

(Solo) Play verse chords over it: hE hAsus2 C#m A

Bridge 2

(Same as Bridge 1 above)

Play Chorus 1, then Chorus 2 until out...

Play verse riff and then stop as Derek, then cajon drums lead out.

Intro

This is _fast_ and is built around a Dsus2 chord. Practice,

practice, practice... it is played through all the verses also.

This is repeated about a million times, i didn't even try to count.

It doesn't change until the bridge

Verse 1

Play intro riff

Bridge

(These changes are along with Cliff's... finally, an easy part!)

Verse 2

6. Not Enough

 Bm4/ x04430

Intro

Verse 1

I mount up with waxen wings,

High to reach the sun.

And I am no further than,

Than when I first begun.

So I build a mount of Athos

 To shape your form against the sky;

With my home in your hands

To show all the people why,

To show all the people why.

Chorus

Everything I do,

It's not enough for you.

Everything I do,

It's not enough, it's not enough for you.

Verse 2

In the garden of my pride,

 The lamented lime tree.

 Too stupid to cry for rain;

fruitless and choked out by weeds.

So I write a book of life,

Using the best words I can find.

For some struggler to snuggle up

 When the world becomes unkind.

 When the world becomes unkind.

Chorus

Everything I do,

It's not enough for you.

Everything I do,

It's not enough, it's not enough for you.

Bridge

I find direction in east-bound clouds,

And long for what they have.

But when I step into its midst,

 Its substance I cannot grasp.

So I paint a portrait of you

 As if you had human disguise;

With oil and canvas to be clay,

 To open up their eyes,

Like you opened up my eyes.

Chorus

Everything I do,

It's not enough for you.

Everything I do,

It's not enough, it's not enough for you.

Everything I do,

It's not enough for you.

Everything I do,

It's not enough, it's not enough for you.

7. All I Know

Intro

(NOTE: If you are really ambitious, you can pick through these. I have tabbed

out a pretty nice way to go about it. It is really fast, so it will take some

practice, and mail me if you ahve questions)

Verse

Spit and the clay, when washed away

  Gave the blind man sight

New eyes couldn't comprehend the sun

That by light ended the night

Bridge

Shackled in blindness since his birth

Whose sin, was it him, what's it all worth

Interlude

G Am7 C D } This time, these are just strummed, not

  } picked as earlier.

Verse

Now with eyes wide open they

  interrogate him

  Saying who is he

Do you believe what that man is saying

Who do you say is he

Chorus

  All I know

Is I was blind, he said

  And now I see

All I know is he healed me

Verse

  I sit here today

So I say that I believe in him

Yet I cannot fathom the wind-like way

  That's made me new again

Bridge

Shackled in blindness since my birth

Whose sin, was it me, what's it all worth.

Chorus

(Same as above)

All I know

Is I was blind, he said

And now I see

All I know is he healed me

Verse

  Now new from the womb

G D (<-- Note the change from Am7 to D!)

They interrogate me

  Saying who is he

Do you believe what that book is saying

  How gullible can you be

Bridge 2

  Darwin my tend to disagree

  I don't know

Marx is writing a drug I need

  Still I don't know

  Freud analyzes in my head

  Nietzsche's saying God is dead

But I'm saying

Chorus

(Same as above)

All I know

Is I was blind, he said

And now I see

All I know is he healed me

Chorus

(Same as above)

All I know

Is I was blind, he said

And now I see

All I know is he healed me

8. There's A Stirring

Intro

(Alt. Tuned guitar)

Verse

There's a stirring deep within me

Could it be my time has come

When I'll se my gracious Savior

Face to face when all is done

Is that His voice I am hearing

  Come away my precious one

Bridge

  Is He calling me?

  Is He calling me?

Chorus

  I will rise up

  Rise up

  And bow down

  And lay my crown

  at His wounded feet

Interlude

  Strum

And then the entire song is repeated. I know it looks easy; it

is! If you just strum cleanly, and throw in a little picking on

the high strings, this song is really nice. It's as easy as that!

9. Jar Of Clay

Intro

*NOTE: many of you are going "What!", because this intro is just chords,

and obviously the recorded version is all picking. Have no fear; the tab

is here: :)

This entire sequence is repeated over and over... the key is to be

*very* clean; it is easy to pick a string and accidently mute it.

Practice, practice, practice!

Verse

*NOTE: The chords are not played here; they are picked, exactly as

in the intro. Use the same pattern and be consistent; it will help.*

  You have made me

  As a jar of clay

And I may be hard pressed

  But I am not dismayed

*NOTE: At this point, the chords are somewhat strummed. Pick the bass

note, then strum the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd strings (the 3 high ones).

You will pick this up on the record, listen to it.*

  Begotten from the dust

  I am dirty

And of these waters of life

  I'm so unworthy

*Strum C here for 2 measures*

Chorus

  My ability

  Won't get me very far

  But my fragility

Is a testimony to who you are

Bridge

  Mold me, make me

C-up (See tab at bottom for this chord)

hold me,

  break me,

  -up

hold me

Chorus

Same as above)

(Solo) *NOTE: Over the solo, just play the same intro pick pattern.*

Verse

Same as above)

*NOTE: This time, the verse stays the same, but pick the chords

throughout, instead of changing to strumming the second half.

This will make sense when you listen to the record.*

Chorus

Bridge

Chorus

Chorus

Bridge

  You are the potter,

  -up

I am the clay

I know I kept repeating "Bridge" and "Chorus", but the song is the same

3 parts over and over, the main Em-G-Asus2-C thing, the chorus of

G-Em-C-D twice, and the C-'C-up' thing over the bridge. That's it!

Derek's part over the verse is almost impossible to get in one sitting,

so we have yet to totally tab it out. His solo will also come later, as

more people want the chords to the entire CD than the solo to one song.

I'll get to work on that stuff soon, though, I promise! But, if you do

have a second guitarist, adding his part over the chorus will really add

to the song. Here it is:

Chorus

  My ability

  Won't get me very far

  But my fragility

Is a testimony to who you are

His chords are all different forms of Cliff's, and are listed below. All

the changes are at the same time. Again (yup, I know you are sick of

reading this!) it is very clear if you play over the record.

Chord Signatures:

Cliff:

e|-3--(3)--x---0---(5)-

  -up

^

You should note this is simply sliding the entire

C chord up a whole tone (2 frets), leaving the

open strings open. (Thus my name, C-up. It

is really like a harmonic D or something)

Derek:

  ^

You should let you finger holding the 5th string drag,

muting out the 4th string. Try it, it isn't too hard.

10. Coming Home

(add4) 554030

Intro

Verse 1

You say you want a living sacrifice

Well I am a burnt offering

 Crawling off the alter and

Back in to the fire

And with my smoke-filled lungs

 I cry out for freedom

While locking and chaining myself

To my rotting desires

Prechorus 1

AND I HATE THE STENCH,

 BUT I SWALLOW THE KEY.

AND WITH IT STUCK IN MY THROAT, CAN YOU HEAR ME?

 CAN YOU HEAR ME

Chorus

I'M COMIN' HOME, I'M COMIN' HOME

I'M COMIN' HOME, I'M COMIN' HOME, BUT I'M STILL A LONG WAY OFF

Verse 2

I am shelled-shocked, and I have walked

Through the trenches full of tears

With the mortars of memory

 Exploding in my burning ears

Prechorus 2

You stripped the trees of Lebanon

 And now you're stripping me

Of the bark of false morality

And the bite of selfish greed

 Can you hear me?

Chorus

I'M COMIN' HOME, I'M COMIN' HOME

I'M COMIN' HOME, I'M COMIN' HOME, BUT I'M STILL A LONG WAY OFF

Bridge

WILL YOU RUN TO ME? WILL YOU COME TO ME?

WILL YOU MEET ME, WILL YOU GREET ME,

WILL YOU DRAG ME HOME 'CAUSE I'M STILL A LONG WAY OFF

Guitar solo

Chorus

I'M COMIN' HOME, I'M COMIN' HOME

I'M COMIN' HOME, I'M COMIN' HOME

Chorus

I'M COMIN' HOME, I'M COMIN' HOME

I'M COMIN' HOME, I'M COMIN' HOME

Chorus

I'M COMIN' HOME, I'M COMIN' HOME

I'M COMIN' HOME, I'M COMIN' HOME
